Football Weekends
Saturdays during the fall is a big day for college football followed by NFL football Sunday. People of all ages from young to old plan their weekends around FOOTBALL. Stadiums from the north to the south are filled with people and there is a marked rise in the sale of TVs during football season. Fans are serious about their football.
To me football is an easy game to understand...but boy it has a lot of player positions. There are linemen, halfbacks, fullbacks, guards, punters, split ends, safeties, tight ends, wing backs, receivers, and of course, the quarterback. This is just some of the positions. Just don't ask me what they all do. I know that the quarterback gets a lot of attention and he is the offensive player who receives the ball from the center at the start of each play before either handing it to the running back, throwing it to a receiver, or running with it himself. He is also the guy that usually informs the offense of the play while in the huddle.
Another position that is important is the receiver. The receiver is an offensive player whose job it is to catch the football. The receiver can be wide receiver, tight end, running back, or even an offensive tackle. He is usually the one to catch the ball and run like his feet are on fire.
Thank you Jesus, that we don't need huddles or running backs, or wide receivers, or quarterbacks in the game of salvation. All we need is Jesus who is the team owner and us the receiver. Jesus has the game plan already mapped out...he knows how many quarters are in this game and if it is going into overtime. He knows the injury list, he knows the players who are going to struggle and miss the ball, he knows who are going to fumble, and he knows who are going to catch the ball, hold on tight and run like the wind. And thank you Lord, for not putting us on the bench...you always keep us in the game. If we are on the bench it is because we, of our own free will, left the field and went and sat on the bench. The Lord, for as long as we want, keeps us in the game and lets us run the ball toward the goal. He doesn't care how fast we are, how good we look, or what kind of dance we do in the end zone...HE only cares that we want to be a receiver and run toward HIS goal.
So next Saturday,Sunday, or the next time someone brings up football, offer up a little prayer..."Yes Lord, I am on your team, and I am glad to be your receiver! Thank you for signing me to your team! You and I are going to the SUPERBOWL together!!!" AMEN
