Memorial Day Remembrances
This past Monday we all celebrated Memorial Day. The day,
every year, that we pay respect and honor to those that have fought for our
freedoms and protection. For me it is a very personal day as I remember, as a
young girl, my father leaving us twice to go to Vietnam and fight in that war.
There are others in my family...my two nephew served in the military and both
served overseas in this present war. Thank you, Lord, that those in my family
that served came back!
Monday night, after a peaceful morning and a wonderful
afternoon spent with my family, friends, and my honey bun and cupcake I started
thinking about the greatest Commander-in-Chief, the most powerful and fearless warrior
civilization has ever known. He has assembled and led his faithful soldiers, his
armies for thousands of years. In all his battles he has always been
victorious. A few of the battles were David and Goliath (see 1 Samuel 17), Ai
(see Joshua 6-7), the battle of Jericho (see Joshua 6). "The Lord God will go
forth like a warrior. He will arouse His zeal like a man of war. He will utter
a shout, yes, He will raise a war cry. He will prevail against His
enemies" Isaiah 42:13. These are just a few...and the battles that
he fights for us are not only with a sword and on the battle field...he fights
the powers of sin and death, against the powers of this dark world, unrighteousness
and fear, weakness and fainthearted..."For we are not fighting against
flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the
powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the
spiritual realms." Ephesians 6:12
We have a holiday that rightly allows us to pause and
give thanks for the service and sacrifice that special men and women have made
for us. Their sacrifice is a gift to all of us and protects us so we are able
to live in freedom and to continue as
"one nation under God"! But
as you pause and give thanks to them, bow your heads and give thanks to the
"Greatest Commander-in-Chief" that always has and always will fight
every battle for us and with us so that all of us will reign victorious on
earth and in heaven!!!
"Know
therefore today that it is the Lord your God who is crossing over before you as
a consuming fire. He will destroy them and He will subdue them before you, so
that you may drive them out and destroy them quickly, just as the Lord has spoken to you."
Deuteronomy 9:3
