Walk or Run!?
Sunday in Mass we sung a hymn that got me to thinking. Part of the words are as follows:
As with joyful steps they sped
To that lowly manager bed,
There to bend the knee before
Christ whom heaven and earth adore;
So may we with hurried pace
Run to seek your throne of grace.
The words that stood out to me were the words "joyful steps they sped" and "may we with hurried pace run to see your throne of grace".
During this Christmas season, not only for me but probably for most of you, there was a lot of "speeding steps". During the month of December we have a lot to pack in...Christmas shopping, parties, trips to the post office, extra church activities like live nativities, school activities, Christmas plays and concerts, trips to see Santa Claus, hay rides and Christmas lights to see, just to name a few. We run ourselves ragged trying to fit into our lives everything that the season offers .
Look to the second to the last and last lines..."so may we with hurried pace, Run to seek your throne of grace". Do we run with that same speed to our Heavenly Father? Are we as in a hurry to go to a special place to be alone with our Almighty and spend time with him as we are running to here and there to meet our Christmas activities? Do we run joyful steps and speed to our Father's throne of grace or does that get lost among all the Christmas preparations?
Carefully look at the last month and answer these questions. And how about the months before December? Do you with joyful steps sped to our Father? Or is your speeding only when there is a crisis or a problem? Do you with a hurried pace run to seek our Father's throne of grace? Or do you just hit or miss and let the grace fall where it may?
This is not only a new year, but a new month and today is a new day. If you haven't been speeding with joyful steps to meet Christ, if you haven't been running with a hurried pace to seek our Lord's throne of grace, all is not lost. The Lord tells us that "It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassion's fail not. His mercies are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness" Lamentations 3:22. Leave yesterday in the past and start today...take a deep breath and start running with lightening speed today!
I will guide you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. when you run, you will not stumble. Proverbs 4:11, 12b
