The Amazing Race
One of the television shows I look forward to watching is the "Amazing Race" that comes on Sunday nights. It is exciting to following the contestants as they travel around the world to foreign places while competing in challenges. Every week the teams have trial and tribulations that they are faced with. They are pushed, pulled, and tested. For some of the teams the challenges bring out the best in them, in other teams it brings out the worst in them.
This series is a lot like real life but condensed. LIFE in itself is an amazing race that we all are participates of. My amazing race, so far, has been one full of blessings and opportunities sprinkled with trials but then even the trials are covered in blessings.
God breathes life into us and we are brought into this world. Whatever our circumstances, at some point in our lives, WE become responsible for making the decision each and every day on how we meet the challenges of life...how I run this "amazing race". Are the trial and tribulations going to make us or break us? Are we going to humbly ask for help, acknowledge just our own strength or the power of the Almighty behind us? Are we going to rejoice in the good times and the tough times? Do we look back over our "amazing race" and marvel at how we have been blessed, how we have grown, how far God has brought us? Can you feel you and your Father getting closer as you travel together on this "amazing race"? Do you comprehend how AMAZING this race we call life really is?
Yes, just like the television reality show, on this "amazing race" we are going to have trials and tribulations. Yes, we are going to be pushed, pulled, and tested. Yes, we are going to grow weary and wonder if we can finish the race. Yes, we are, at times, going to feel like we can not go on or that we are lost, or maybe even alone.
But, just like on the reality show, in this "amazing race" we will "throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us" Hebrews 12:1. We will be tested but bring it on..."For you, O God, test us; you refined us like silver. You brought us into prison and laid burdens on our backs. You let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance". Psalm 66:10. And in this real "amazing race" we will never be alone because of His promise..."No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you." Joshua 1:5.
So just like we sit down and catch up on the episodes we have missed on Sunday night's "Amazing Race", sit back in a comfortable chair, in a quiet place and catch up on the real "Amazing Race" of your life. Where are you in the race? Remember in this, the real race, the prize is not a check for some substanial amount of money...it is for far much more...you are running an "Amazing Race" for eternity in the arms of the Almighty!
