In the Details...

Over the last couple of weeks my daughter and I have been working on designing her wedding invitations. When you are making invitations, as in almost everything you do,  there are so many details that have to be considered. She had no idea! When we decided to start on the invitations she thought all she had to do was pick out what she wanted and MOM could make it.  Little did she know...(she knows now!)...that you have to consider paper size, paper weight, texture of paper, size of invitation and cost of mailing just to name a few of the considerations. Then there is the fonts, font size, and color of fonts...it is a project that demands attention to detail...but so well worth it when you see the finished project!

In the details...how often last year did you pause to reflect on the millions of details that are and where taken care of in and around your life? We serve a God that is the master of details. He sees the sparrow that falls to the earth. He knows the very number of the hairs on your head, Matt. 10:29-31. Everywhere you go, everywhere you look, you can see the hand of God actively involved in His creation, Psa. 19:1-4a. He hasn't only planned out the big things but he has planned every tiny detail of creation...from the creation of our world to the creation of our lives. WOW!...What comfort and security that holds for each and every one of us.

As we are working our way through the days and months of this year, "2013", we can step into each moment with the assurance that the circumstances that we encounter are ultimately designed by our Almighty God and a piece of His plan for our lives. I see it in the lives of our family...the loss of jobs, the jobs taken, the meeting of my children's spouses, the timing of my grand baby, the friendships that we have...etc. But is my mind always quick to recognize the smaller details of life?  The person that passes by you that gives a greeting, the simplest of tasks around the house, the groceries you find on sale at the store, the chance to get outside in the cold or the heat and take a walk, the chance to serve one another...maybe we recognize these blessings because they are positive. What about the "not so positives" in our lives!? Do you recognize God in these details of life? Are we ready to acknowledge that this fits into his plan also? The sickness that comes our way, the aggravating personalities that we have to work with, maybe the job we don't like, the broken down car, the weather, the phone ringing off the hook, a crying child, a short-tempered spouse...do we see God in these small details?

My challenge to you is to put on a pair of new glasses for "2013"! As we work through the minutes, hours, and days of this new year look for the details and praise our Creator for his hand in them. Keep a journal nearby and record them...as detailed or simple as you wish...but as you record them God will speak to you. You will find yourself truly amazed at how many of the details in life we can let go of and how proficient God is at designing our lives. You will start to see more and more blessings in your life, be able to draw closer to our Father, and want to praise him more and more for Him being "IN THE DETAILS" of life!

“Then the man bowed down and worshiped the Lord, saying, ‘Praise be to the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who has not abandoned his kindness and faithfulness to my master. As for me, the LORD has led me on the journey”  (Genesis 24:26-27).
